Sakaide City Salt Industry Museum
坂出市塩業資料館
Sanuki was counted as one of the Ten Provinces' salt fields during the Edo period. The Kume-style salt field, invented by Kume Eisaemon, produced excellent salt and was responsible for one-third of Japan's salt production at the time.
Visitors can learn about this salt-making history and view historical tools on display. The video library shows valuable footage of Sakaide's salt-making process, and visitors can also take salt-related quizzes on computers.
The museum is built on spacious former salt fields and is surrounded by the pleasant natural environment of the beach.
