Shamijima
沙弥島
The island features well-maintained walking paths that connect major historical sites. While enjoying the seasonal scenery of the Seto Inland Sea, you can take a leisurely historical and literary walk unique to this Manyō period island.
Shamijima was once a small island located about 4km offshore from Sakaide Port, measuring 160m east to west and 930m north to south.
Although it became connected to the mainland through the Bannosu reclamation project in 1967, it is still called "Shamijima."
Nakanda Beach on the northeast side of Shamijima is a small, historic coastline. During high tide, the sea rises up to the stone-paved walkway, and you can see small fish swimming in the clear water.
The view of a single Chinese Hackberry tree standing against the backdrop of the Seto Inland Sea and Seto Ohashi Bridge is an iconic landscape of Shamijima.
A short walk from Nakanda Beach leads to the "Nakanda Beach Observatory," where you can view the magnificent Seto Ohashi Bridge.
