Seto Inland Sea Historical Folk Museum
瀬戸内海歴史民俗資料館
Atop Mount Goshikidai, with a panoramic view of the Seto Inland Sea, stands a beautiful building resembling a stone mountain castle. This museum is a must-visit for those interested in architecture and the culture of the Seto Inland Sea.
The design, which harmonizes with the natural landscape of Goshikidai, was created by architect Tadashi Yamamoto, who was the head of Kagawa Prefecture's Architecture Department. It was completed in 1973.
The building has received numerous awards: the Architectural Institute of Japan Prize (Works) in 1975, the First Public Architecture Award Excellence Prize in 1988, was selected as one of the 100 Public Buildings in 1998, and was recognized as "Architecture of the Modern Movement in Japan" by DOCOMOMO Japan in 2013.
