Kuroiwa Tenmangu Shrine
くろいわてんまんぐう
In the 2nd year of Ninna (886 A.D.), Michizane Sugawara was appointed as a governor of Sanuki and was posted to this area. One year, when the villagers were facing difficulties because of the continuous drought and the pond had dried up, Michizane climbed up to the castle mountain and prayed for rain at the shrine. The villagers welcomed the Lord Suga to their land in a frenzy of joy. In honor of Lord Suga's virtue, a shrine was later built here and named Kuroiwa Tenmangu Shrine.
