Spring water of Yasoba
This cold spring, also called Nozawai, is said to be a sacred spring that never dries up no matter what the weather is like. Legend has it that the water revived 88 soldiers who had fallen ill from the poison of the bad fish, and thus the name “88 no mizu” (88 waters) was given to the spring. According to a legend concerning the Emperor Sutoku, after his death, his body was kept in the sacred spring of Yasuji while waiting for the capital to decide on the treatment of his corpse.
