    • Nishiyama Shrine is located in Fujimi-cho at the foot of Tsunoyama.
The name “Heso no Miya Nishiyama Hachimangu” comes from the fact that “long ago, a monster was defeated and buried, and the shrine was built right where the monster’s navel was,” hence it is affectionately known as “Navel Shrine.”

  • 03 Yokoshio Shrine (Yamato Takeru no Mikoto Shrine)

    • Yokoshio Shrine is located in Fukue-cho at the foot of Kanayama. It is said that Fukue-cho was named after the place where the belly of the defeated evil fish, a “stingray,” was found.
It is said that Yokoshio Shrine enshrines “Yokoshio Daimyojin,” a child who appeared with pure water when Takekaiko-o, the child of Yamato Takeru no Mikoto, defeated the evil fish.

Long ago, King Sarure defeated the evil fish that was ravaging the Seto Inland Sea, but when soldiers who had fallen to the fish’s poison were revived by this water, 88 of them came back to life, thus it came to be called “The Water of Eighty-Eight.”
