Okinawa-style Bento and Sata Andagi (Okinawan donuts) Shop 385myaaku
Authentic home-style flavors from Miyako Island
Located in Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture, 385myaaku is a shop specialising in Okinawa-style bentos and sata andagi (Okinawan donuts), run by an owner originally from Miyako Island. The name myaaku comes from the local Miyako dialect word for “capital”, and reflects the owner’s wish to share the appeal of her island hometown with the broader community.
The star of the menu, sata andagi, was inspired by a chance remark from an Okinawan-loving friend the owner met in Kagawa, who simply declared: “I want to try it!”.
To recreate the nostalgic flavor of the sata andagi her grandmother made when she was a child, the owner spent countless hours refining the recipe through trial and error.
The result is a crisp, fragrant crust with a soft centre and a delicate, lingering sweetness.
Sata andagi is a traditional Okinawan sweet that has been loved for generations. Made by mixing flour, eggs and sugar before frying in oil, it’s an unfussy, comforting donut with enduring appeal. Known as satapanbin on Miyako Island, it remains a familiar and much-loved homemade treat.
385myaaku also serves Okinawan bentos and home-style dishes from Miyako Island. Recently opened as the first shop selected under Sakaide City’s new “Challenge Shop” initiative, it has quickly become known as a relaxed space where visitors can enjoy a taste of island food culture – and often, a warm conversation with the owner.
